Weekly Prompts: Legend of St. Valentine

Welcome!

We are so excited to officially launch our Writer's Shelf blog. Our hopes are to grow Writer's Shelf to help engage writers of all stages through writing exercises, prompts, worksheets, and more. We have hopes that our Writer's Shelf can go beyond even our own expectations and we'll be delivering more news about our upcoming plans as they unfold.

We have different categories that we'll be unveiling during the rest of the week which we hope you find as much fun as we do. These exercises and prompts are inspired by the ones our professors had us do during college and they helped us fine-tune our writing abilities. We have hopes that they can do that for any writers that want to learn, need a writing boost, or even just wanting to have some fun.

Our first round of exercises and prompts will be Valentine's Day-themed. Our first Weekly Prompt can be found below.

The legend of Saint Valentine is one that comes with many versions and most have a tragic undertone. One story of Valentine tells of a Roman Priest who performed secret weddings before eventually being held prisoner by a noble and ultimately killed. More can be read on the History website. The Catholic Church actually recognizes three Saint Valentines while the actual day we celebrate today has a long history that ties to Shakespeare and King Charles II through the art of cards and flower giving. More can be read on the Town & Country website

Weekly Prompt: The Legend of St. Valentine

You have read the various legends of Saint Valentine and now it's time to make a legend up on your own. We encourage you to do further research if you're someone that needs to do so before writing. We hope you can make this prompt fun. You can style the legend after Roman myth or even create a fairytale. There is no limit on word or page length. This can be any genre and any style. This is not a timed prompt and if you'd like to share your stories we would be happy to see them.

Happy writing!
