Writer Wednesdays: Scenes off the Shelf Valentine-Themed

Welcome!

We at Writer's Shelf have another exciting day of activity for all you writers out there! We have a great love of the improv show "Whose Line is it Anyway?" which originated in England before making it to the states with past host Drew Carey (now the host of "The Price is Right") and current host Aisha Tyler. Ryan Stiles and Colin Mochrie have been with the improv show during its entire run with Wayne Brady being part since the Carey-installment. The show is great for the comedians' highly skilled improv skills and the fun games that they play in which to "win" points. One of those games is called "Scenes from a Hat" in which Tyler draws scenes out of a hat and then the performers have to come up with scenes off the top of their head.

We have come up with our own writer version of this game that we have dubbed "Scenes off the Shelf" and much like "Whose Line," this game will have you thinking fast and writing quick. The rules for this writer game is simple. We will give you a scene theme and you have to just write off the top of your head a scene. No thinking it through or plotting even a little. Just let your fingers do all the typing and strictly pants your way to the end of the scene. It doesn't matter how long the scene is or how many characters or even the genre. Just write a scene.

The Prompt:

An unusual place for a Valentine's Day date.

This can be as simple as being in a tree or as wild as having a date on Mars.

Happy writing!
