Writer Wednesday: Time Travel Exercise

We have a new challenge for you today on our Writer Wednesday with a new exercise that we hope will take your writing to a new place. This week we've been focusing on the theme of time travel so today we thought we would help you with a few exercises that will help take your time travel story to new heights.

We want you to pick three time periods then we want to do thorough research. This can be a specific year like 1985 New York or it can be a point during the Jurassic Period. Either way, we want you to pick a period at a specific year and do thorough research from climate to society to wildlife. The more thorough notes you take the easier it will be to develop your story.

After you research three time periods, ask yourself questions:

1.) How do your characters react to the time period they're in? Are they excited, shocked, or in denial?

2.) What threats are there against your character? Do they face exposure? Are there natural threats against them like a T-Rex hunting them?

3.) What would happen if the characters were discovered to be from the future?

4.) Consider how you're character will attempt to fit in. Will they need to use specific slang or cultural references? Or would they just need to run to survive?

Happy writing!
