Writer Wednesday: Fruit of the gods

Our monthly prompt for April was magical fruit and we decided to give a few more activities that fall under that theme. Fruit plays a prominent part in mythology from severed heads into coconut trees to the apple of discord. Some of the mythology is commonly known such as the role that golden apples play. In Greek mythology, Atalanta was distracted with an apple by her competitor who then went onto win the race while the goddess Hera had a sacred apple tree that had apples entirely made of gold, was guarded by a dragon and was a gift from Zeus. In Irish mythology, golden apples were found on a silver branch that was owned by the sea deity Manannan mac Lir. There are even myths about the creation of certain fruits such as in some cultures the story behind coconuts says they came from severed heads.

Trivia:

The Roman goddess Pomona was over fruitful abundances such as fruit trees, gardens, and orchards. She's commonly compared to the Greek goddess Demeter.

Write a short story from the goddess' perspective. No word length.

Quote:

As a challenge, keep this within the range of 500 to 1000 words. Use this quote to start a short story:

"The fruit maybe sour but it will grant you mystical properties."

Exercise:

Create a magical fruit tree.

Think about the type of fruit and its properties.

Then think about the tree's location. Is it hidden away on a mountain top? Far away in the swamp?

What people or beings know about the tree? Do they share it or protect it from the outside world?

Happy writing!
