Mayday Stories: Day 14 Playing Opossum

Check out our prompt response to Day 14 at Storyaday.org. We had fun conjuring a ghost dog.

Jaylee's Ghost Dog Visit

Jaylee sprinkles water onto the nearest plant. She didn't have much of a green thumb, but she gave it her best shot. Her fiancée loved plants and she wanted to impress her.
The ghost of a border collie materializes over the next plant in line, knocking the wide-rimmed planter to the ground. It barks in surprise and runs headlong into Jaylee's legs.
Jaylee yelps and swings the water pitcher around until she notices the dog. "Well hello there."
The dog ghost, delighted at being seen, hops up on its hind legs to paw frantically at Jaylee's chest. It barks and drops to all fours where it stares up at her, tail wagging dangerously close to another potted plant.
"What's the matter?" Jaylee pats the misty body of the ghost dog. "You look like you want to tell me something?"
The dog ghost darts to the door then back to Jaylee. It licks at her hand as if to encourage her.
"Okay... so follow you..." Jaylee needed to brush up on her dog communication skills.
The dog ghost twirls in place until Jaylee sets the water pitcher aside and heads to the door. The dog ghost wriggles past her in the doorway and bounds into the yard beyond. When it sees her still following it takes off at a dead run for the nearest bushes.
Jaylee chases after the dog until it comes to a stop. "What's going on?" She looks around the yard, but she didn't see anything amiss.
The dog ghost pokes its head out of the bushes and whines.
She hurries to the bush. "What?" She looks around until her hands spot an opossum laying on its back. "I don't understand?"
The dog ghost nudges the opossum, still whining. It licks the opossum and looks at Jaylee for help.
Jaylee finally gets it. "Your friend is dead?" She goes to carefully push it and it suddenly whirls around at her with a hiss. She yelps and goes flying backward out of the bush.
The dog ghost barks at the opossum with wild delight. It runs circles around the still-hissing opossum, certain Jaylee resurrected its friend.
