Mayday Stories: Day 19 Thrifty

We had fun thinking about antiques for today's prompt from Storyaday which can be found here. We've always been excited by the idea of magical objects in stories and enjoyed the opportunity to think of one of our own for this prompt. We wrote a short scene in response.

Blink of an Eye

Auburn Dentry from Dentry Tea Room wanders down the aisles of the various knick-knacks, lamps, shades, statues, and undescribable creations that she couldn't even venture a guess as to their purpose. She took great pride in the vintage look of the business she helps run with her aunt. She loved getting antique teapots, china, and furniture to create a timeless aesthetic. Now she just needs the perfect piece that will liven the place up. She was certain it would not be the bust of a woman that looks like it should be on a pirate ship. She scanned the aisles searching for a piece that felt like her or her aunt. Something timeless that would stand out. It's not often that an antique gives her pause. But the antique eye model that sat on a bronze base did just that. Not for the right reasons. It was the most hideous thing she had ever seen in her life yet she was found herself unable to look away. She texted a photo to her aunt and to her closest friends, each responded with a varying degree of "yikes." She wandered away from the shelf to rummage through tea saucers. When she had found a variety of patterns and colors, she turned to find that the eye model staring straight at her. The uneasy thing was that it seemed to have squinted its eyelid halfway shut, more than before. She places the saucers into her basket and makes her way throughout the store. She found a few other items and on her venture back, she came across the eye model which had been turned to face the opposite direction.

"Can I help you with anything?" The woman that works there emerged from the opposite end of the thrift store.

"Actually, how much is the eye?" Auburn points to the eye model.
