Pantser on Fire: Going to the Future

This month is about the future. The good. The bad. The in-between. The monthly prompt is focusing on utopia versus dystopia futures and every week, the themes of the prompts and exercises featured will explore the future. The pantser prompts for today are exploring the idea of the future with fun-filled prompts that you'll be tasked to write. The only rule is that there is no plotting. These are prompts that your only goal is to write.

1.) The Time Machine is a classic time travel novel that finds the lead character going to a future where humanity is split between two societies, one above ground and one below. Write a short story where you are a time traveler and you've traveled to the year 3000.

2.) You can find several adaptations of The Time Machine with one lesser-known one being the short-lived series Time After Time which finds HG Wells using a time machine to go to the year 2017 after Jack the Ripper. Write a short story that includes a time machine, a historical character, a fictional time traveler, and the present day.

3.) Pick a moment in history and write a short story where you've traveled from the present day to this moment in time.

4.) You were on a trip through time when your time machine breaks down. Now you're stuck in the last place you visited. Write about this place.

5.) Do the opposite of #4. Write a story where you visited a year in the future and broke down. This can be a year from now or a thousand years.

Happy writing!
