Storyaday Prompt: Extra Ideas for May Stories

This May Storyaday website is putting on a month-long prompt fest and we are so excited to be taking part. Today's the last Wednesday for April, and so today's prompt is an easy one to do. The goal is to come up with a few back-ups prompts in case, not every prompt next month is liked. Some prompt ideas for May as possible backups.

Setting:

Atlantis: You dive into the water and discover a magical city. Is it deserted? What are the beings that live there like? What dangers lurk? Think about the setting before diving into the story.

Hitting the Road: Write about a road trip between two characters that are estranged. This can be two siblings or exes that have to spend days on the road with each other. Think about the destinations and sights the two will be seeing.

Going on Vacation: Think about your dream vacation and write about it. You have suddenly won an all-expenses-paid trip to anywhere in the world you want to go. Where is that? Think about what you'd do when you when get there? Or you can twist it and make it a vacation gone wrong.

Life on an Island: Imagine you live on an abandoned island. Think about what it feels like to be alone in the middle of the ocean. How do you pass the time?

Adaptation:

Tell a Dream: Use a dream for inspiration to write a story. Try to use as many details as you can remember. If the details are weird, let them be weird.

Fanfiction:

New Scene: Add a scene to your favorite book/movie/TV show. Think about your favorite show and write what happens next. This can be for a canceled TV show that you want to see more of or for a book series you wished would have ended differently.

Write a Song: Write a story inspired by a song. Listen to music and write the story you think the lyrics are telling.

New Character: Write a new character in your favorite book/movie/TV show by including them in a scene.

Favorite Character: Write a new scene for your favorite character in whatever show/movie/book you've chosen.

Fictional World: Write a new story set in a fictional world. This can be from your favorite movie, book, or TV show. Keep the world the same but include all-new characters and possibly, even locations.

Other:

Sea Animals on Land: Animals from the sea grow legs and venture onto land. How would this change the world? Think about creatures that are more threatening like a shark? Think about how you'd react if you saw a shark going down the highway.

Back in the Day: Set your story back to a prehistoric time. Research your time period before diving in. Then consider who your characters are. Are your characters prsent-day humans? Think about how they gt back in time. Or are your characters more obscure like a dinosaur?

Character:

Homecoming: A character has returned home after years away to find that everything has changed. How are their dynamics with family and friends different than before they left? Consider telling the story between past and present to show what happened before your protagonist left.

From the Wild: A character that has spent the last decade living within the wilderness away from civilization and when they return they discover aliens have taken over the planet.

Stranger on a Plane: Your protagonist meets a stranger on the plane. Where are they heading? Think about the dialogue and the conversation between the two.

Phoenix: Your character dies and wakes up as someone else. Who did they wake up as? How is their life different?

Perspective:

A Tail of Two Perspectives: A human and their dog. Write a scene from one perspective then write the scene again from the other perspective.

New Fairytale: Write a fairytale from a new perspective such as the dragon. Pick a side character in a classic fairytale and retell it from their perspective. How are events different when it's seen from someone else's eyes?

Quote:

Ending: End your story with the line "From that moment, the two of them would never be apart again."

Beginning: Start your story with the line "I thought when we landed on the Moon that would be our biggest achievement. Then we went to Mars."
